HANS Member Agencies provide a variety of educational resources and outreach activities.  Some offer classes that individuals may attend for state certifications or simply to learn more about HIV/AIDS.  Other Member Agencies, through our Speakers Bureau, have speakers and educators who are available to address community organizations.

Classes

Classes are available for HIV educators and health service providers as well as others who may come in contact with people with HIV/AIDS.  These include:

 

Florida's Standard HIV/AIDS Courses
  • HIV-104:  meets licensure requirements for nurses, massage therapists, cosmetologists, and other health care and human service professionals.  Offered by  American Red Cross.

  • HIV-101/104 (four-hour class) and HIV-101/104 Modified (a.k.a. "Guys & Dolls", a two-hour class for court-ordered offenders) offered by Community AIDS Network.

  • HIV-500:  focuses on HIV counseling and testing issues.  Required of all individuals taking HIV-501.  Offered by Sarasota County Health Department (CEUs are available).

  • HIV-501:  counseling and testing course meets the 20-hour requirement for counselors set by the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Sarasota County Health Department

  • HIV-501 Annual Updates:  offered by Sarasota County Health Department (CEUs are available).

Other Classes
  • American Red Cross offers courses such as Starter Facts/Facts Practice, HIV/AIDS Fundamentals, African-American HIV/AIDS, Hispanic HIV/AIDS, and Workplace HIV/AIDSMore info...

  • Community AIDS Network (CAN) offers HIV Educational Presentations for Health Professionals upon request.  Call 366-0461 and ask for the Education department.

  • Planned Parenthood offers a wide variety of courses including HIV/AIDS Prevention.  Programs are presented in schools, religious and community settings as well as in private individualized situations.  Call (941) 955-1860 x19 or click here for more info.
     


 

Outreach / Speakers Bureau

The Speakers Bureau allows the opportunity for local organizations to arrange presentations by both trained HIV/AIDS educators and professionals as well as people living with HIV/AIDS.  A Speakers Bureau presentation is an extremely effective way to raise awareness and learn about HIV/AIDS issues.
